NDT and Structural Inspection

MATLAB Materials Laboratory provides non-destructive testing (NDT) of concrete and steel, structural inspection and pile testing in Cambodia. Our field teams assess existing buildings, new structures and foundations without damaging them: rebound hammer and ultrasonic pulse velocity surveys, carbonation and cover meter mapping, pull-out and pull-off tests, magnetic particle, dye penetrant, ultrasonic and visual testing of welds, pile integrity testing and cross-hole sonic logging.

Work is reported to ASTM, BS EN, ISO and AWS D1.1 acceptance criteria and can be combined with core sampling and laboratory strength testing for a complete condition assessment. Recent work includes magnetic particle testing of 51 welded structural-steel connections at the Wing Bank SR project.

Who uses this service

Steel fabricators and erectors needing weld acceptance, piling contractors proving shaft integrity, building owners and insurers assessing existing structures, and consultants investigating defects or change of use.

How it works

  1. Quotation: send the specification clause or test list; the quotation names each standard and unit price.
  2. Sampling: deliver samples to #271, Street 1964, Sen Sok, Phnom Penh, or book our crew for site sampling anywhere in Cambodia.
  3. Testing and report: tests are run to the named method and the signed report is issued on completion, with results against the specified limits.

Why contractors and consultants choose MATLAB

  • MLMUPC General Construction Laboratory License No. 0001 and CANC-registered conformity assessment body.
  • Concrete NDT, weld NDT and pile integrity from one mobilisation, nationwide.
  • Cores and samples taken during the survey go straight to our own laboratory.
  • Reports written for structural engineers, insurers and owners, with marked-up drawings.

Frequently asked questions

What is a pile integrity test?

The low-strain pile integrity test (PIT, ASTM D5882) detects defects, necking and length anomalies in cast-in-place piles from the pile head. For large-diameter bored piles we also offer cross-hole sonic logging (CSL, ASTM D6760) through pre-installed access tubes.

Can you check the strength of an existing concrete building?

Yes. We combine rebound hammer and ultrasonic pulse velocity surveys with calibration cores, carbonation depth and cover meter mapping to estimate in-place strength and durability.

Which weld tests do you perform?

Visual testing to AWS D1.1, magnetic particle testing (MT), dye penetrant testing (PT) and ultrasonic testing (UT) on structural steel welds, on site or in the fabrication shop.

Do you inspect buildings outside Phnom Penh?

Yes. Teams mobilise nationwide; mobilisation is priced by distance band up to 600 km.
