Aggregate, Asphalt and Pavement Testing
MATLAB Materials Laboratory provides asphalt premix and aggregate testing in Cambodia for road contractors, asphalt plants, quarries and supervising consultants. We test aggregate quality for source approval, bitumen properties for binder acceptance, and hot-mix asphalt for Marshall stability, flow, density and binder content, and we core finished pavement to verify thickness and compaction.
Testing follows the ASTM, AASHTO, BS EN and Asphalt Institute methods written into MPWT and donor project specifications, and daily production-control results can be delivered under a framework account with a named technician for your plant or site. Compaction and in-situ density on the road are covered by our field testing crews.

How it works

Frequently asked questions
What is tested in asphalt premix?
Marshall stability and flow, bulk density and air voids, binder content by extraction, and gradation of the recovered aggregate, compared against the approved job-mix formula. We also carry out asphalt mix design to Asphalt Institute MS-2 / AASHTO R35.
Which aggregate tests are required for road base in Cambodia?
Typically grain size, Atterberg limits of fines, Los Angeles abrasion, soundness, flakiness and elongation, sand equivalent and unit weight, together with modified Proctor and CBR of the blended material. Our base course package bundles these at a fixed price.
Can you test bitumen?
Yes: penetration, softening point, ductility and viscosity to ASTM and AASHTO methods, plus residue from distillation for cutbacks and emulsions.
Do you core asphalt pavement?
Yes. We core asphalt and concrete pavement on site to check layer thickness and density, and test the cores in the laboratory.
